Are any of the items exclusive to the 44 BCE Kickstarter campaign?

Yes, but none of the game components are Kickstarter exclusive. However, only a few extra copies of the Emperor edition will be manufactured. So if you want the miniatures and metal coins, your best bet will be to get them now.

The aluminum character prints and PC desktop wallpapers will only be offered via the 44 BCE Kickstarter campaign. These items will not be sold outside of a campaign. And of course, if you want to be commemorated in 44 BCE forever, the custom Recruit artwork will only be available during the Kickstarter campaign along with the unique only-of-its-kind aluminum print.

Who are the five playable historical figures?

The historical significance of this period has been integral in driving our vision and game experience of 44 BCE.

Brutus - was like a son to Julius Caesar until he decided to conspire against Caesar to save the republic. Throughout history, Brutus is synonymous with conspirator and traitor. Eventually, Mark Antony and Octavian defeated Brutus at the Battle of Philippi. Could Brutus have planned better and become Rome’s savior?

Mark Antony - Julius Caesar’s trusted general and right hand! After Caesar’s assassination, Antony received a shock! He was not, as he had expected, Caesar’s heir. Mark Antony refused to surrender Caesar’s funds to Octavian, creating a rift between them. He is undoubtedly a strong military leader, but can he outmaneuver Octavian politically?

Octavian - much was expected of Octavian. While studying, he was informed of Caesar’s assassination. Against the advice of his friends, step-father, and advisors Octavian returned to Rome to claim his right. It was not going to be an easy feat, and he knew it! But, Octavian would fight for Rome. Can Octavian focus his incredible skill, power, and perseverance on renovating Roman life in order to bring about an era of prosperity?

Cleopatra - was shrewd and had a powerful navy, and had access to the vast wealth of Alexandria. Cleopatra seduced Julius Caesar and later married Mark Antony. Could Cleopatra have played things differently to expand her influence?

Agrippa - one of Augustus Caesar’s great generals, advisors, and architects. As an architect, Agrippa built some of Rome’s most iconic structures, such as the Pantheon. Agrippa’s victory at the Battle of Actium sent Mark Antony and Cleopatra fleeing back to Egypt and all but assured Octavian’s ascent as emperor. Could Agrippa have turned that situation more to his advantage?

Why did you choose 44 BCE as the name?

We have tried to remain as historically accurate as possible when making 44 BCE. We did make a few choices that we feel made the game more relatable. One of those choices was to use 44 as the year instead of 710 AUC. We felt that most of the world would easily recognize 44 BCE as the year that Julius Caesar was assassinated.

Additionally, one of the things that we all love and appreciate about board games is that they bring people together from all different backgrounds and walks of life. We believe that we have created an incredible interactive game that allows the players to engage with each other throughout the game. The term BCE has been in use since the 17th century, and was created not to remove Jesus from the calendar, but instead to offer more accuracy. In addition, it also allows the calendar to be more inclusive, and that is a sentiment with which we identify. We want as many people as possible to enjoy playing 44 BCE.

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
